Use Deep Breathing Exercises for Stress relief

Deep breathing exercise is the broad part of yoga. It is a simple and effective way to reduce stress. Stress is harmful to health. Generally, the gross activities of a day, coupled with other factors, can bring about stress. But deep breathing works on your system, making it possible for you to be free from stress or less prone to stress. You can reduce and also prevent the number of disease by doing yoga and deep breathing exercise. These breathing exercises promote relaxation, activate the relaxation response and reduce stress. It helps in purification of the breath and provides the ability to control and regulate the same. Deep breathing releases tension and clear your mind. It directly affects the quality and quantity of oxygen and so it helps to improve blood quality. It also helps to improve digestion, brain and heart function, and nervous system function.

How to Do Deep Breathing Exercises

Start by breathing slowly, but deeply. Take air in through your nose, and then blow the air out through your mouth. Deep breathing means drawing air down into your abdomen. Don’t just take the air into your throat and breathe out. That’s what we usually do. Begin by slowly breathing in through your nose to a count of 5, and then slowly exhale through your mouth to a count of 6. Continue for at least 2 minutes, and then notice what happens.

Feel your breath thru your stomach exercise

Begin by sitting up straight in a chair with good support. Do not bend or strain your back Breathe out fully through your mouth. Put your hands on either side of your stomach, right above your waist. Breathe in slowly through your nose, at the same time pushing your hands out with your stomach. Done properly (stomach out while breathing in), this ensure that you are breathing deeply and taking in maximum oxygen. Hold your breath for a count of two to five. It will be easier to hold your breath if you keep holding out your stomach.

Tips for deep breathing exercise:

Try to practice this exercise at a time when you are already relaxed. This will make it easier to take deeper breaths.

It can take some time to re-learn how to breathe. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. Take some time each day to practice this exercise. You can do it anywhere.

If you are having trouble taking deep breaths, try breathing in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Also, slowly count to five in your head as you breathe in and out.
